Case Study of Overseas ICT Technology Utilization for Realization of Smart Logistics by Domestic Logistics Companies

Purpose – The purpose of this study is to present an application plan for the implementation of smart logistics of domestic logistics companies. In other words, we analyzed the use cases of smart logistics technology of overseas advanced companies and based on this analysis, presented a plan that can be applied to domestic companies. Design/Methodology/Approach – The research method of this paper is a literature study based on previous studies and reports. Accordingly, in this study, using the contents of previous studies and reports, the theory of smart logistics technology is reviewed, and then smart logistics use cases of advanced logistics companies are analyzed. Findings – In this study, the status of smart logistics technology applied to various logistics activities such as transportation, storage, and unloading was identified. Smart logistics technology not only improves the efficiency of logistics functions, but is also establishing itself as an important source of corporate competitiveness. Research Implications – Based on the research results, effective smart logistics implementation plans for domestic logistics companies are presented as follows. First, it is necessary to establish a roadmap for smart logistics through step-by-step implementation and integration after deriving feasible parts of smart logistics for each logistics function. Second, it is necessary to actively nurture smart logistics manpower to apply ICT technology to logistics. Third, at the government level, government policies are needed to establish and systematically support a roadmap for the gradual development of smart logistics.
