The German missiology scholar Peter Beyerhaus tried to uncover the prob-lems of modern utopian thought to present a biblical alternative. He criticized the errors of Messianic Marxism and the modern utopian thought both of the World Council of Churches (WCC) and in the documents it approved. First, Beyerhaus analyzed the Messianic Marxism of its main proponents Ernst Bloch, Vitezslav Gardavsky, Milan Machovec, and Roger Garaudy. Second, Beyerhaus analyzed in detail the atheistic and non-biblical features of the ideas of Christian Socialism as well as the utopian ideas endorsed by the Theology of Liberation, People’s Theologies, and Liberation Theology. Third, Beyer-haus analyzed the utopian thoughts in modern missional documents approved by the WCC. He paid particular attention to the ideas that appeared in the Kairos Document and the Melbourne Documents. Beyerhaus critiqued the contextual theology and Marxist ideology of these documents from a biblical perspective. This essay examines not only the criticism of Beyerhaus on mod-ern utopian errors, but also the constructive features of his doctrine of the Kingdom of God. His doctrine is distinctive because of its biblical-centered, Reformational, trinitarian, and missional features.
