소방공무원의 소명의식이 외상 후 성장에 미치는 영향

The Effect of Firefighter’s Calling on Their Growth after Trauma: Focusing on the Mediating Effect of Ego-Elasticity

본 연구는 직업의 특성상 반복적으로 외상 사건을 경험하게 되는 소방공무원을 대상으로 소명의식과자아탄력성 그리고 외상 후 성장 간의 관계를 살펴보고 어떠한 영향을 미치는지를 알아보고자 하였다. 특히 소명의식과 외상 후 성장과의 관계에서 자아탄력성이 매개역할을 하는지 알아보고자 하였다. 연구대상은 수도권에서 근무하는 소방공무원 500명을 대상으로 하였으며, 윤리적 고려를 위하여가톨릭 대학교 성심교정 생명윤리심의위원회(IRB)의 승인을 받은 후 진행하여 다음과 같은 결과를얻었다. 첫째, 소명의식은 자아탄력성에 유의한 정적 상관이 있었으며, 외상 후 성장과도 유의한 정적상관을 있는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 소명의식이 외상 후 성장에 영향을 미치는 과정에서 자아탄력성이 부분매개효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 소명의식이 직접적으로 외상 후 성장에 이르기도하지만, 자아탄력성을 통해 외상 후 성장에 이르기도 한다는 것이다. 그러므로 소방공무원들의 정신건강 문제를 상담하고 치료해줄 정규적인 프로그램이 마련되어 시행되어야 할 것으로 생각된다.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship among a sense of calling, ego-resilience, and post-traumatic growth for fire officers who experience traumatic events repeatedly due to the nature of job, and to identify its influence. In particular, we tried to find out if ego-resilience plays a mediating role in the relationship between a sense of calling and post-traumatic growth. The study targeted 500 firefighters working in the metropolitan area and proceeded after obtaining approval from the Institutional Review Board of the Sacred Heart Correction (IRB) of the Catholic University for ethical consideration. First, the sense of calling was found to have a significant positive correlation with self-elasticity, and also had a significant positive correlation with post-traumatic growth. Second, ego-resilience was found to have a partial mediating effect in the process of the sense of calling affecting post-traumatic growth. This means that the sense of calling directly leads to post-traumatic growth, but also leads to post-traumatic growth through ego-resilience. Therefore, it is believed that regular programs should be prepared and implemented to counsel and treat fire officers’ mental health problems.
