미래사회를 대비하는 통섭교육과 통섭교사

A Sutdy on the Necessity of Consilience-Education and -Teacher

미래를 대비하는 교육은 시대의 경향변화를 정확하게 이해하고, 적절한 자체 변화를 모색해야 한다. 현 지구촌은 세계화의 흐름 속에서 지식기반사회로 진행 중이다. 글로벌 거대자본과 첨단 과학기술은 지구촌의 변화를 가속시키는 쌍두마차이다. 지식산업복합체의 무한경쟁 시스템은 미래사회에 여러 가지 문제를 야기할 것으로 보인다. 전반적으로 양극화와 불평등 문제가 심화될 것이다. 미래를 대비하는 교육과 교사는 수직적ㆍ수평적 차원에서 사회적ㆍ문화적 통합을 이끄는 능력을 갖추어야 한다. 그러한 교육과 교사의 통합력은 미래사회의 양극화와 불평등 문제를 방지하거나 해소하는 데 필요한 근본적 요소로 작용할 수 있을 것이다. 그러한 능력을 갖춘 교육과 교사를 필자는 ‘통섭교육’과 ‘통섭교사’로 부르고자 한다. 본 연구는 통섭교육의 필요성과 통섭교사의 역할에 대해 살펴본다. 비록 미비하지만, 이 글의 논의를 바탕으로 통섭교육과 통섭교사에 대한 본격적 연구가 활성화되기를 바란다.

Education is the foundation for safety and growth in a nation. Education, the embodiment of planning for a better future, should progressively change to meet changing times. Now in the flow of globalization, the global village is rapidly changing from a material-based to a knowledge-based society. Under these circumstances education has two big challenges. First, educators must try to cultivate creative talent, essential in a knowledge-based society. Second, educators must prevent the various risks that may appear in the acceleration of unlimited competition and increase the ability to protect humanity and dignity. The education for those two rabbits can be found in intelligent creativity, a requisite virtue for leaders of a knowledge-based society. To cultivate creativity, education needs to encourage autonomous intellectual imagination. This education becomes possible, above all, through the key concept of consilience . Consilience is an attempt to maximize human ability by uniting all human knowledge and wisdom. Consilience-education aims to resolve all divisions and conflicts between regions or groups. In addition, Consilience-teacher who can practice consilience-education should be trained. Consilience-education and -Teacher is a request of the times. To delay it would be fatal, the changing tempo of the world is too rapid.
