Analysis of Articles in the Vietnamese Daily Nhan Dan on the Korea-Vietnam Summit: Focusing on Changes in Perceptions of Korea

This paper analyzes the contents related to Korea of the Vietnamese Daily Nhan Dan among the major media in Vietnam. In a situation where all media in Vietnam are under the permission and censorship of the Communist Party and the government, Vietnamese Daily Nhan Dan, the official newspaper of the Communist Party, is the medium that most accurately reflects the intentions of the Vietnamese leadership. Also, for this reason, what kind of view did the Communist Party take toward Korea, which had been at odds in the unfortunate past and now has established a “strategic cooperative partnership” in various fields such as politics, economy, culture, etc. This is to find out what kind of image it was drawn through. In addition, in this process, the cause of the change in perception of Korea can be discovered and the correlation can be identified. The articles in the Vietnamese Daily Nhan Dan analyzed are limited to those related to the 10 summits between the two countries from the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 1992 to the establishment of a “strategic cooperative partnership” in 2009. The Korea-Vietnam summit has been held 10 times in 18 years, on average, about once every two years, repeatedly for a certain period of time, to see what changes in the article content for each period. By analyzing it, I think that it will be possible to effectively analyze the transition process of the image of Korea in the Vietnamese Daily Nhan Dan.
