An Analysis of Research Trends in Cross-border Higher Education in China using Network Analysis

국경을 초월한 고등교육(Cross-border Higher Education) 중국 내 연구동향 분석: 네트워크 분석 활용

[목적] 본 연구는 1998년부터 2020년까지 중국에서 발간된 학술지 분석을 통해 중국 국경을 초월한 고등교육(cross border higher education) 분야의 연구 동향을 조사하는데 목적을 두었다. [방법] 이 목적 달성을 위해, 연구 주제어를 이용한 의미적 네트워크 분석뿐만 아니라 발행 연도, 연구 방법, 연구 주제, 연구 목적 등을 포함한 분석 기준의 빈도 분석을 수행하였다. [결과] 시간이 지남에 따라 연구 동향과 연구 주제의 변화뿐만 아니라 역사적 발전 과정도 확인되었다. 이 연구 분야의 두 가지 개발 단계인 출현 단계(1998-2007)와 급속 발전 단계(2008-2020)가 밝혀졌다. 이 연구 분야의 핫스팟의 변화는 주로 국가 정책에 의해 촉진된 것으로 드러났다. 또한 개요와 경향을 다루는 연구가 전체 문헌에서 가장 큰 비중을 차지하였다. 그러나, 연구 중심으로서의 학생과 교사 같은 미시적 분석은 현재 문헌에서는 연구가 미흡한 것으로 나타났다. 연구방법과 관련해서는, 문헌 분석 및 사례 연구 방법이 연구자들에 의해 널리 사용되고 있었는데, 이는 지금까지의 연구가 대부분 이론적 검토 및 현상 확인 수준에서 수행되어 왔다는 것을 의미한다. 따라서, 이는 국경을 초월한 교육에 대한 개발 또는 응용 연구와 같은 경험적 연구가 촉진될 필요가 있다. [결론] 빈도분석과 의미네트워크 분석 결과를 토대로, 본 연구는 중국의 국경을 초월한 고등교육분야에서의 학술적 연구가 그간 많은 양적, 질적 성장을 거듭해온 것을 확인하였으며, 더불어, 이를 토대로 향후 연구를 위한 보다 발전적인 개선 방향이 도출되었다.

[Purpose] This study aims to investigate the research trends in the field of cross-border higher education in China through analysis of academic journals published in China from 1998 to 2020. [Methods] To achieve this goal, the study carried out semantic network analysis using research keywords, as well as the frequency analysis with the analysis criteria including publication years, research methods, research themes, and research purposes. [Results] The historical development process as well as the evolvement of the research trends and the focus of this topic over time were presented. Two developmental stages in this research field were revealed: emergence stage (1998-2007) and rapid development stage (2008-2020). The changes in the hotspots of this research field are largely boosted by national policies. It was also found that most of the studies centered on overviews and trends. However, at the micro level, teachers and students as a research focus are insufficiently researched. It can be seen from the previous literature that researchers favor the methods of document analysis and case study, and so far they are mostly conducted from the level of theoretical review and status quo identification, lacking empirical studies such as development or application research on cross-border education. [Conclusion] Based on the findings, research biases were found within the field. Finally, the paper discussed the future directions for research, including substantive concerns and methodological issues.
