New Meno : Between the “Philosophy” and “Education” of Gilles Deleuze

교육은 사회 공동체의 토대가 되는 건설적인 인간을 육성하고 가르치는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이러한 점에서 교육의 문제는 사회적인 문제일 뿐만 아니라, 근본적으로 인간 주체에 대한 철학적 성찰로 귀결된다. 이러한 의미에서 들뢰즈의 교육철학은 현 교육에 비판적인 기능을 수행할 수 있는 사유 능력의 배움으로서 반-시대적이다. 또한 동시에 그것은 비판을 통해 미래지향적 교육을 창조한다는 점에서 늘 현재성을 벗어난다. 그리스 시대 일명 나쁜 교육자로 낙인찍혔던 소크라테스의 배움과 가르침은 역설적으로 오늘날 참된 교육의 의미를 상기시킨다. 들뢰즈의 교육철학적 기획은 바로 소크라테스 더 정확히 말하자면 플라톤 교육에 대한 문제제기에서부터 시작된다. 그러나 이 시대적 구출에 있어서 들뢰즈에게 플라톤의 󰡔메논󰡕은 그리스 시대로의 역행이 아니라 오늘날 교육 현실을 비판적으로 관통해서 새 시대를 개시하는 이중적인 철학적 도구이다. 본 논문은 들뢰즈가 자신의 배움을 ‘새로운 메논’으로 규정한 것에서 출발하여 그가 때로는 플라톤적이고 때로는 반-플라톤적인 논쟁 구도 속에서 어떻게 자신만의 교육 지형을 형성하는지를 분석하고, 그것이 비판철학적 맥락에서 오늘날 어떤 교육 메시지를 가질 수 있는지를 살펴보고자 한다.

The education’s problem is not only socially essential as it nurtures and teaches people to become sound workers, the foundation of a community, but also fundamentally leads to a philosophical reflection on the human subject. In this respect, educational philosophy of Deleuze is always beyond the present since it is anti-time in terms of the learning of thinking skills to perform critical functions against the current education and creates future-oriented education. The teaching of Socrates, who was seen as a bad educator in ancient Greece, ironically reminds us of the meaning of true education today. Deleuze s educational philosophical planning starts by raising issues with Socrates’, more precisely, Plato’s education. In an attempt to escape the time, for Deleuze, Plato s “Meno” is not a retrogression to ancient Greece, but a dual philosophical tool that critically examines today s education system and initiates a new era. Starting with Deleuze defining his learning as “a new Meno,” this study aims to analyze how he develops his own educational landscape in both Platonic and anti-Platonic debates and to explore its educational message from a critical philosophical aspect by learning from the past.
