학원의 교육문화에 대한 문화 기술적 연구

A Cultural and Descriptive Study on the Educational Culture of Private Educational Institutes: Focusing on Private Educational Institutes for Middle and High School Students

목적 본 연구는 학원에서 보여 지는 행위를 탐색하여 학원의 교육문화가 가지는 특성과 의미를 기술함으로써 그 문화는 어디에서 기인한 것인지를 밝혀내어 독자들에게 사교육에 대한 공감과 이해를 구하기 위한 목적에서 이루어졌다. 방법 이를 위해 현상이나 대상에 영향을 주는 요소나 변인들을 발견하는데 유용한 질적 연구방법을 수행하였으며, 학원이라는 특정한 공간에서 나타나는 문화를 탐색하기 위해서 2019년 2월부터 2021년 1월까지 참여관찰과 심층면담 중심의 문화 기술적인 방법으로 연구를 수행하였다. 결과 수집된 자료를 토대로 분석한 연구 결과는 ‘학생이 평가주체인 교사평가문화’, ‘학생의 학업향상을 위한 교사의 노력문화’, ‘교사와 학생의 소통문화’로 범주화 되었다. 결론 이 결과는 교육 평가적 해석을 통해 학생이 평가주체가 되는 교사평가로 인하여 교사의 개선과 발달을 가져오고 있음을 드러내었다. 특히 평가주체에 대한 신뢰성의 혼란, 수업 중에 일어나는 형성평가를 통한 비언어적 행동의 관찰, 교사의 수업능력 신장의 현상은 학원에서 나타나는 교사평가문화의 특성이다.

Objectives The purpose of this study is to ask for sympathy and understanding from the readers by describing the characteristics and meaning of the educational culture of private educational institutes and exploring the behavior of members observed in institutes, therefore finding out where this culture stems from. Methods For this purpose, a qualitative research method useful for discovering factors or variables affecting a phenomenon or object was used and the research was conducted with participatory observation and in-depth interview-oriented cultural and descriptive method from February 2019 to January 2021. Results The research results analyzed based on the collected data were categorized into ‘teacher evaluation culture in which students are the subject of evaluation’, ‘teacher s effort culture for students academic improvement’, and ‘teacher-student communication culture’. Conclusions This result reveals that improvement and development of teachers can be achieved by teacher evaluation in which students are the subject of evaluation through the educational evaluation interpretation. In particular, the confusion of the reliability of the evaluation subject, the observation of non-verbal behavior through formative evaluation that occurs during classes, and the improvement of teachers teaching ability are characteristics of the teacher evaluation culture that can be observed in private educational institutes.
