이 글은 채숙희(2013)『현대 한국어 인용구문 연구』를 비판적으로 검토한 서평 논문이다. 이 책은 구어 자료를 면밀히 살핌으로써 기존 연구에서 주목하지 못했던 현대 한국어 인용구문의 여러 가지 양상과 특성을 구체적으로 관찰하고 논의하였다는 점에서 기존 인용구문 연구의 한계를 충실히 보완하는 역할을 하고 있다. 인용구문이라고 하면 머릿속에서 흔히 떠올리게 되는 ‘누가 누구에게 무엇이라고 말하다’ 정도의 문장들을 넘어, 실제 사용되는 한국어 인용구문에서는 훨씬 다양한 양상이 나타나고 있음을 잘 보여 주고 있는 것이다. 본고에서는 채숙희(2013)의 취지와 기술 내용, 설명 내용에 전반적으로 공감하면서도 인용구문의 범위 설정, 인용동사의 분류, 인용표지의 생략에 대한 견해, 피인용문에 어미가 결합한다고 보는 견해에 있어 달리 생각해 볼 여지가 있음을 제시하였다.
This article is a review on Chae(2013), A study on quotative constructions in Modern Korean. It complements previous studies on this subject in terms of data and description: the data of this book are based on spoken Korean, which is new, and, in this regard, new traits of the constructions are captured substantially. This book proves quotative constructions are far more complex and diverse than the previous studies have usually posited. Despite we mostly agree with Chae(2013), some disagrees may be put forward: the coverage of quotative constructions, the classification of quotative verbs, the explanation on the deletion of the quotative marker, and the view that a verbal ending can attach to a fully conjugated form of the verb of a quoted sentence.
