Japanology from the Perspective of “Creative Traditionalism” Part II: Focussing on the Tendencies in the Literary History

一言で言うには難しいが、世界どの&#22269;においてもその&#22269;民のもつ普遍的イデオロギ&#12540;はあるもので、それは、その&#22269;の&#27508;史や文化、あるいは社&#20250;や風土、その他、地政&#23398;的な&#19982;件などによって決定されるのが一般と言えよう。とりわけ、日本ㆍ日本人のもつ普遍的イデオロギ&#12540;として位置づけられる<創造的&#20253;統主義>は、過去以&#26469;今日までも多&#25968;の制度や現象などに受け&#32153;がれており、それはまた過去において彼らの文&#23398;史上に&#35251;る創作技法の流れを通しても窺えよう。その主たる例としては、まず平安時代の中ごろ、院政期以降にみる歌合における本意思想が&#25369;げられ、これは正に創作技法としての&#20253;統主義を象&#24500;するものと言わざるを得ない。また鎌倉時代の詠作法で、いわゆる定家によって&#20869;面化されたとも考えられる&#29421;義的本歌取り手法は、それに創造性が加えられた彼らの性向の決定版といっても過言ではあるまい。ところで、こういった文&#23398;史上に&#35251;る中世初期の性向は、その他、&#30330;生以&#26469;今日まで受け&#32153;がれてきた多&#25968;の制度や現象と共に、中世に求められる現代日本文化の淵源を物語るものといってよかろう。

It is an undeniable fact that each country in the world presents a universal ideology shared by people, and it is generally determined on the basis of the country’s history, culture, society, climates, and other geopolitical factors. In particular, the creative traditionalism, characterised as a universal ideology in Japan and for the Japanese people, has been reflected in a number of systems and phenomena; this can also been seen in their creative techniques in their literary history. A primary example of this is the thought of real intention in honkadori at the middle of the Heian period. This sheerly typifies the traditionalism as a creative technique. Also, it is reasonable to view the narrow sense of the honkadori technique, a poetry technique in the Kamakura period, which, we assume, was internalised by Sadaie, as the ultimate creative poetry technique. I argue that these tendencies in the early medieval era, observed in the literary history, portray the origin of contemporary Japanese cultures, together with a number of traditional systems and phenomena.
