The article explores the theme of the author s point of view and the artistic image of the hero in the story The Hermit from M. Gorky s Stories of 1922-1924 , which contains his new literary searches in form and tone, and a new understanding of human existence after the October Revolution. The writer reveals the complex character of the new hero through the author’s attitude to the hero and the speech of the hero himself. The poetics of this story are necessary to be studied in order to understand the later works of Maxim Gorky, especially the novel The Life of Klim Samgin .
