This article analyzes the communicative functions of the language based on the theory of linguist and literary critic Roman Jacobson. Paying particular attention to the poetic function of the language, the article focuses on examples of its use in advertising on Russian television. An explanation of the stylistic techniques that are used in making advertising slogans is also given.
