Chinese furniture has a long history and various forms. If you differentiate it by its shape, it can be divided into two categories: ‘no girth’ and ‘girth’. Among them, the style of “no girdle waist” is derived from the Chinese “pillar” architectural structure, while the style of “with girdle waist” is derived from the Buddha sitting in Buddhism and the base of the stupa “Sumeru”. As a style born in foreign culture, the waist girdle style has a profound influence on the Chinese furniture system and is still in use today. The reason why the waistband style has such a strong vitality, I think, is inseparable from the Chinese craftsmen s appropriate reference and innovation to foreign culture. At present, facing the input of many foreign cultures in the tide of internationalization, how to draw lessons from and innovate has become an important issue in modern furniture design. Therefore, this paper analyzes the ideas of foreign culture reference and innovation in Chinese furniture design by studying the style of waist girdles, and explores the direction of modern application of the style of waist girdles, hoping to provide reference for modern furniture design.
