In this paper, a study is conducted to compare and analyze the similarities and differences of flat planes commonly used by mankind. The traditional flat plane showed a common structure in which the plane blade is fixed to the plane due to the functional characteristics of processing the plane. However, the hand tool called ‘traditional flat plane’ also has different characteristics from Korea, China, and Japan, which represented the East, and the West also has characteristics that distinguish it from the East. This paper compares and analyzes six items that the appearance of the plane, the fixing method of the blade, the fixing angle of the blade, the working method, the formative characteristics, and the materials used in the plane for the flat planes commonly used by humankind. Traditional planes used in different cultures developed by exchanging influences with neighboring countries, and differences and commonalities were identified by country.
