In the aging society, the senior industry are becoming popular with the elderly as their main consumers. The nation promoting the development of goods that aid the elderly in real life reflects that designing products in consideration of the physical functions and emotional intimacy of elderly people are becoming important. Therefore, this study aims to develop an armchair, one of the most used household products by the elderly, and provide information in hopes of accelerating the commercialization of senior friendly products. The concept of universal design is to create a product that everyone can use comfortably. With this in mind, the process of this study is as follows: 1. basic data research, 2. product manufacturing research, and 3. product commercialization research. We aim to proceed with the basic data research for product development, which is the first step of the process. Basic research data will be obtained by measuring the human body dimension on the ergonomics level of the senior people who visit two senior welfare centers in Seoul under a memorandum of understanding (MOU). In addition, through 1 : 1 face-to-face survey method, we investigate the preferences on the chair frame, finishing materials, and the shade of materials categorized by age and sex. Based on the results of the analysis, we will cooperate with AND co. to carry out a follow-up study to manufacture an armchair reflecting the physical condition and emotional affinity of the elderly. The researchers hope this research will provide useful information to aid senior people live their daily lives with pleasure and comfort.
