Unutilized wood refer to fuel that have undergone certification procedures using the products specified in Article 2 of the Regulation on Use and Promotion of Forest Biomass Energy Sources. Unutilized wood are by-products other than logs derived from harvesting, spe-cies production and deforestation for the purpose of mountain development, and harvesting products from forests. Since these Unutilized wood are pure wood, there is no concern about environmental pollution. According to the Korea Forest Service, the raw materials neglected in the mountains are accumulating 4 million tons annually. These raw materials are not collected properly and are neglected, which become a cause of forest fires and pests. Energy conversion of these abandoned raw materials will not only create new value as renewable energy, but it will also help preserve the environment. This study was made to investigate and report the for-eign examples of recycling not used and small diameter log of Ginko biloba L., Zelkova serrata Makino, Castana crenata S. et Z, Cedrela sinensis A. Juss, Tilia amurensis Rupr. which are excellent wooden materials left to be discarded after making traditional furniture.
