ract: According to the classification of traditional forest knowledge (TFK), some samples for wood species identification were taken form a column, door grate, and floor in a traditional wooden pagoda in Chunyang-Myeon, Beopjeon-Myeon, Bonghwa-gun, KyungBuk Province at Taebaeksan area. Other samples were also taken from a column, door grate, and floor in a tra-ditional wooden house in Beopjeon-Myeon, in Bonghw-gun. As a result, all of the wood species were identified as pine species by optical microscopic observations. In addition, biological deg-radation were appeared in all most of the members. More systematic researches are required to scientifically classify the wood species used for traditional wooden buildings and clearly define the deterioration factors for traditional wooden members. The aim of this study was to find out the Korean forest culture and timber culture not yet known in the traditional wooden products belonging to the TFK by using modern analysis technologies, and update the new information on TFK form the identification of wood species.
