The use of rubber and cork chips, which are elastomers, was investigated to give a re-duction effect of floor impact sound to wood-based flooring boards. By the adhesion of rubber or cork chips to the bottom of the flooring board, a light-weight and a heavy-weight impact sound reduction effect can be obtained. Comparing the floor impact sound reduction effect of the cork chip and the rubber chip, the rubber chip having a small dynamic elastic modulus is excellent. In the case of cork chips, 5 mm chips have better floor impact sound reduction than 3 mm chips. It is necessary to investigate the effect of reducing the floor impact sound accord-ing to the size of the rubber chip. It is effective to adhere rubber or cork chips to the entire bot-tom area of the flooring board in order to reduce the heavy-weight impact sound, which is an important inter-floor noise problem in apartments.
