Recently, as people’s interest in eco-friendly materials expands, the demand of wood is increasing. But it is still well-known that wood is in danger of fire. In this study, analysis of combustion characteristics of five domestic species were conducted to be used as basic data for improving fire-retardant. The combustion characteristics of five domestic species such as peak heat release rate and total heat release, CO/CO2 and ignition time were analyzed by cone calo-rimeter method (KS F ISO 5660-1). Pinus koraiensis showed the highest value (207 kW/m2) of peak heat release rate, but, Abies koreana showed the lowest value (128 kW/m2). In case of the total heat release, Pinus koraiensis showed the highest value (126 MJ/m2) and Populus detoides showed the lowest one (61.8 MJ/m2). The total oxygen consumed results showed that Pinus kor-aiensis had the highest at 81.2 g, Populus detoides had the lowest value of 40.7 g. The CO/CO2 analysis results showed that Larix kaempferi had the highest at 0.039, Pinus densiflora and Pinus koraiensis had the lowest value of 0.023. In these results, combustion characteristics of wood showed different trend according to five domestic species. If further study should be conducted into structural, physical and chemical properties of wood, these results were expected to be ba-sic data for improving fire-retardant.
