In this study, we analyzed the color of thermal compressed wood, which is the main element of visual and decorative effect for crafts and furniture. In order to evaluate more specif-ic and quantitative data, the color of pine wood (Pinus densiflora) was measured and evaluated before and after thermal compression. Overall, temperature and time analysis showed that the brightness decreased with increasing temperature. On the other hand, redness and yellowness tended to increase generally. In particular, the color difference was judged to be a “Very much” above 180 °C, and the change was very large. The change in color over time decreased with in-creasing thermal compression process. However, redness and yellowness were not found to cor-relate with time. Overall, the brightness decreased as thermal compression proceeded. From the above fact, it can be seen that since heat affects the evaluation of the compressed plate materi-al, it is necessary to develop a technology capable of thermal compression without lowering the brightness.
