Chaos theory is widely known as the Butterfly Effect. It is a scientific theory that has a remarkable effect in how modern society has formed, and has become a metaphor used in our everyday life. Chaos theory was developed from a process of unpredictable climate change. Now it is often applied to describe the complexity and irregularity which easily makes the fu-ture unpredictable. This notion is frequently used in economics, philosophy, literature and scien-tific discoveries. It can also be adapted within the domain of art, including and more recently, applied art such as furniture design. The chaos phenomenon shows unpredictable and unlimited variations through a non-linear process, which can be steadily observed from contemporary fur-niture designs. The purpose of this study is to analyse furniture designs with unpredictable char-acteristics through the non-linearity of chaos by providing fitting examples. This study attempts to define the theory of chaos by analysing irregularities erupted from non-linearity methods that finds correlations with unpredictable expressions in contemporary furniture design. Furthermore, it examines how these disorderly expressions can be applied in furniture design, by focusing on the shape and surface.
