종교와 국가 권력의 관계 그리고 여성

The relationship between religion andstate power and women: Focusing on Dayan Dereh, the Mongolian mujo myth

본 연구에서는 다얀 데레흐 신화를 중심으로 각편의 변이 양상을 조명함으로써 신앙과 국가 권력의 관계 그리고 여성의 문제에 대해 논의했다. 다얀 데레흐 신화는 샤머니즘과 티베트 불교, 또 몽골제국과 샤머니즘, 그리고 여성의 ‘몸’과 관련한 문제 등을 폭넓게 읽어낼 수 있는 계기를 제공한다. 신화 속 다얀 데레흐의 위상은 각 서사의 지향점이 샤머니즘에 있느냐 혹은 티베트 불교에 있느냐에 따라 편차를 드러내고 있다. 샤머니즘에 지향점이 있는 서사에서는 다얀 데레흐가 달라이 라마와의 내기에서 승리하며 티베트 불교에 지향점이 있는 서사에서는 달라이 라마와의 논변에서 지고 라마승의 재고에 갇히는 등의 굴욕을 당한다. 주목할 것은 다얀 데레흐와 칭기즈 칸이 결탁하는 자리에 칭기즈 칸의 딸은 존재하지 않는다는 사실이다. 향후 샤머니즘과 몽골제국의 운명이 결정되는 순간, 모든 갈등의 시발이 되었던 여성의 ‘몸’은 마치 처음부터 그것이 문제가 아니었다는 양 사라져 있다. 특히 일부 서사에서 칭기즈 칸의 딸은 그녀 혼자만이 집요한 살육의 추적 대상이 된다. 그런데 이때 어머니가 되어본 적도 없는 칭기즈 칸의 딸이 사후에 ‘어머니 나무’로써 제의의 대상이 된다는 사실은 유념할 만하다. 이 서사에서도 여성의 ‘몸’은 결국 모성 담론에 귀속됨으로써 남성들의 연대에 이바지하기 때문이다.

In this study, the relationship between faith and state power and women s issues were discussed by illuminating the variations of each versions, focusing on the myth of Dayan Derech. The Dayan Derek myth provides an opportunity to broadly read shamanism, Tibetan Buddhism, the Mongol Empire, shamanism, and issues related to the “body” of women. Dayan Dereh s status in mythology reveals deviations depending on whether the direction of each narrative is in shamanism or Tibetan Buddhism. In the narrative oriented towards shamanism, Dayan Dereh wins a bet with the Dalai Lama, and in the narrative oriented to Tibetan Buddhism, he is humiliated, such as losing in an argument with the Dalai Lama and being trapped in the lama s storage. It is noteworthy that there is no daughter of Genghis Khan in the collusion between Dayan Dereh and Genghis Khan. The moment the fate of shamanism and the Mongol Empire is decided in the future, the women s body , which started all conflicts, disappears as if it was not a problem from the beginning. In other words, in this narrative, the ‘body’ of a women only appears as a kind of expedient for the solidarity of men. In this triangular composition of Dayan Dereh, Genghis Khan, and Genghis Khan s daughter, the key is not the relationship between the male and female characters, but the relationship between the two male characters.
