Genetic diversity of 91 Korean soybeancultivars was asesed with 20 simple sequence repeat(SSR). Twenty SR loci generated a total of 149 alleles. The number of aleles for each SR locus ranged from 3to 15 with a mean of 7.5 aleles. Genetic diversity estimatedby PIC value of 91 cultivars was ranged from 0.424 to0.905 with an average of 0.711. Cluster analysis based onNeis genetic distances clasified 91 soybean cultivarsexcept Geomjeongkong 4 into 7 groups. The majority groupsrespectively. Obvious differences in genetic diversity apearedto be related with the released periods of cultivars andutilization type of cultivars, but not with breeding sites.Cultivars released in 1970s and in 1990s showed thelowest and the highest genetic diversities with 0.576 and0.706, respectively. Soybean cultivars for vegetable andearly maturity showed the lowest genetic diversity with0.514, while those for soy sauce and tofu showed the highestgenetic diversity with 0.691. Genetic distance between soy-1970s was the nearest, while genetic distance betweenthose developed in 1970s and 1990s was the furthest.Cultivar group for vegetable and early maturity showed thefurthest genetic distance with cultivar group for soy sauceand tofu, while it showed the nearest genetic distance withcultivar group for cooking with rice. Genetic distance wasgreater between soybean cultivar groups developed inSuwon and Iksan than between those developed in Milyangand Iksan.
