『신선전(神仙傳)』에 나온 초인 캐릭터로서의 신선 전형

The Prototype of Sinsun as Superhuman Character in “Shinsunjeon”

상상세계에 있는 신선의 형상과 이미지는 개인별 경험에 따라 각양각색이거나 가변적이다. 특히 신선이 ‘초인 캐릭터’로 등장하는 영상 콘텐츠에서 타당한 근거를 통해 제시된 ‘신선 원형’이 없다면 창작과 현실 세계의 괴리가 커서 관객의 혼란이 클 수 있다. 본 연구는 이런 문제점에 착안하여 신선관련 고전으로서 역사성, 구체성, 가치성, 영향성을 인정받고 있는 중국 갈홍(葛洪)의 『신선전(神仙傳)』(총 10권)의 주인공 신선 84명의 스토리를 모두 내용분석해 초인의 원형을 도출하였다. 아나즈(Anaz, 2017)의 ‘초인의 원형모델’을 원용해 불로장생 현황, 특이한 외양, 교육⋅위민봉사, 기행⋅도술, 단약 제조⋅사용, 퇴장 양상이란 6가지 범주를 분석 모델로 적용하였다. 연구결과 초인으로서 신선의 전형은 ‘변신술, 사물 조종술, 질병 치료술 등의 도술을 부리고 의료봉사와 백성 구휼에 치중하며 단약, 교접⋅방중술, 운모 복용 등으로 장, 회춘, 부활, 불멸을 추구하면서 평균 430년간 젊고 생기 있는 얼굴로 살다가 어느 날 흔적도 없이 귀신처럼 홀연히 사라지는 캐릭터’로 나타났다. 연구 결과는 관련 주제의 첫 연구 성과인데다 향후 신선 관련 스토리텔링을 위시한 콘텐츠 창작 및 관객과의 교감에서 핵심적인 준거가 될 것이라는 점에서 의미가 있다.

The image and shape of ‘sinsun’ (immortal Taoist hermit with magic) in our imaginary world is so diverse or changeable depending on individual experience. If there is no “prototype of sinsun” that has been identified by justifiable literatures or grounds, the audience would be in great confusion due to the wide gap between creation and reality world especially in the video contents where sinsun appears as a super hero or a superhuman. Based on these raised questions, we analyzed contents of all 84 stories of sinsun, the main characters of “Sinsunjeon” and then derived the prototype of the superhuman. Using the ‘super hero prototype character model’ of Anaz (2017), six categories were applied as analysis models: the status of longevity, distinctive appearance, education service and poverty salvation, amazing actions and magics, preparation and use of wonder drugs, disappearance aspect. It is shown that stereotype of sinsun as super hero is the characters who has pursued longevity, rejuvenation, resurrection, and immortality using magic medicine, sex skills and taking mica, etc., and lived for an average of 430 years as a young with lively face and disappeared like a ghost without any trace, focusing on medical service and poverty salvation for the ordinary people throughout his/her life. The result is significant in that it is the first academic achievement of the related topic and will be a key criterion for content creation contained sinsun-storytelling and interaction with audiences in the future.
