비만과 유방암의 특성 및 상관관계 분석

Characterization of Obesity and Breast Cancer, and Their correlation

세계보건기구는 비만이 치료해야 할 주요 질병이며, 세계 10대 건강위험 요인 중 하나라고 규정하고 있다. 한국을 포함한 전세계의 비만 인구는 증가하고 있으며, 비만과 관련된 여러 질병들의 위험성이 대두되고 있다. 비만은 당뇨병을 포함한 여러 대사성 질환을 유도할 뿐만 아니라 최근에는 암과의 연관성이 밝혀지고 있다. 유방암은 10대 암종 중 하나로서 세계적으로 발병률이 꾸준히 증가하고 있다. 비만으로 인한 체중 증가는 여성의 유방암 발병률과 치료 및 회복에 부정적인 영향을 주며 그 위험성을 증가시킨다. 본 총설에서는 유방암의 특성과 비만과의 연관성을 논의하고, 이를 통해 추후 상용화될 치료제를 살펴보았다.

The World Health Organization has defined obesity as a major disease to be treated and one of the world s top ten health risk factors. The obese population around the world, including Korea, is increasing, and the risk of obesity-related diseases is emerging. Obesity is associated with development of metabolic diseases, including diabetes mellitus, as well as several types of cancers. Breast cancer is one of the top ten cancers developed and its incidence rate worldwide steadily increases. Weight gain due to obesity is a main negative risk factor that influences the incidence, treatment, and recovery of breast cancer in women. This review aims to analyze the association between obesity and breast cancer and to investigate prospective treatments of breast cancer in the future.
