복온공주 활옷의 자수편과 문양 분석을 통한 연대 추정

Period Estimation through an Analysis of Embroidery and Patterns from Princess Bokon s Wedding Dress

국립고궁박물관 소장의 복온공주 활옷의 이음선에 주목해서 구성의 특징을 살펴보고 자수편을 분리하여 분석한 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 복온공주 활옷은 궁중자수의 진면목을 보여주는 소중한 유물로, 섭성 풍속으로 인해 안동 김씨 집안에서 5대에 걸쳐 혼례복으로 사용하는 과정에서 훼손됨에 따라 20세기 전기에 수선을 하였다. 둘째, 복온공주 활옷풍의 자수편이 부착된 국내외 유물을 3점 확인하였다. 국립중앙박물관 소장 활옷 1점, 브루클린박물관 활옷 1점, 시카고 필드자연사박물관 활옷 1점이다. 셋째, 복온공주 활옷에는 5단으로 구성된 분할구도의 문양이 사용되었다. 문양은 덕온공주의것보다 좀 더 다양하고 조밀한 특징을 보였다. 넷째, 복온공주 활옷의 겉감은 총 36편이나 되는 크고 작은 조각들로 구성되어 있었다. 그 중자수편은 뒷길 3조각, 앞길 3조각, 뒷소매 5조각, 앞소매 2조각 등 총 13조각이었다. 다섯째, 자수편 13조각을 재배열해 본 결과, 좌우 소매의 통수 자수편, 앞스란 자수편, 뒷스란자수편, 소매아래 자수편 등 4종의 자수편으로 분류되었다. 특히 통수 자수편에서 90cm 이상의광폭 공단이 사용되었음을 확인하였다. 여섯째, 뒷길 소매와 앞 스란 부위에 장식된 접문은 복온공주의 방석에 장식된 접문과 조형적특징이 다름을 확인하였으며 비대해진 길상문 꼭지의 보개문은 20세기 이후 출현하는 것이 아닐까라는 의문을 제기하였다.

The results from examining the characteristics of the composition and analyzing embroidery pieces of Princess Bokon’s wedding dress in the National Palace Museum of Korea are as follows. First, Princess Bokon’s wedding dress is a valuable relic showing the essence of royal embroidery. It was repaired in the early 20th century from damages received during the process of using it as a wedding dress over five generations of the Andong Kim family. Second, wedding dresses with embroidery pieces of Princess Bokon’s style were identified from the National Museum of Korea, the Brooklyn Museum, and the Chicago Field Natural History Museum. Third, a five-stage split pattern was used for Princess Bokon’s wedding dress. The patterns were more diverse and denser than Princess Deokon’s wedding dress. Fourth, the outer appearance of Princess Bokon’s wedding dress consisted total of 36 pieces. And the embroidery pieces consisted of a total of 13 pieces among them. Fifth, as a result of rearranging the 13 pieces of embroidery pieces, they were classified into four types of embroidery pieces. Sixth, It was confirmed that the butterfly pattern differs from that of the Princess Bokon’s cushion. And the question was raised that canopy patterns decorated on the wedding dress appeared after the 20th century.
