코로나 시대 자비의 영성의 맥락과 강조점들

The Context and Emphasis of the Spirituality of Mercy in Covid-19

우리는 2020년부터 그 이전에 경험해보지 못했던 코로나 시대를 살아가고 있다. 이러한 시대적 배경은 인간의 결핍과 고통, 연약함과 비천함이라는 주제에 대해 더욱 민감하게 반응하도록 이끈다. 그리스도교 영성도 이 어려운 시기를 헤쳐나갈 수 있는 영적인 길을 제시하도록 요청받고 있다. 교회 안에서 20-21세기는 하느님의 특별한 개입을 통해 당신의 자비와 자비로운 존재가 새롭게 부각된 은총의 시간이다. 우리는 성녀 파우스티나와 성 요한 바오로 2세에 의해 전달된 이 영적 체험의 유산을 ‘자비의 영성’이라고 부른다. 그렇다면 하느님께서는 왜 당신의 자비를 일깨우시는가? 그것은 현재 우리가 사는 세상이 그 어느 때보다도 더 절박하게 하느님의 자비를 필요로 하기 때문이다. 코로나19 전염병의 확산도 우리 시대 펼쳐진 하느님 자비의 계시 맥락 안에서 해석될 수 있을 것이다. 그 동안 ‘자비의 영성’에 관해 출간된 책이나 자료들을 살펴보면, 이 영성이 제시하고 있는 주요한 내적 방향성에 대해서는 연구가 상당히 부족해 보인다. 이에 따라 ‘자비의 영성’을 처음 접한 이들이 단편적인 외적 실천에만 머무르는 한계를 보이기도 했다. 본 연구는 성경 계시의 원리, 자비의 영성이 태동하게 된 역사와 신학의 맥락, 그리고 현 코로나 시대의 자리를 종합적으로 연결하여 이 영성이 본질적으로 제시하고자 하는 방향성을 강조하고자 한다. 그리하여 하느님의 자비 안에서, 우리가 겪고 있는 현실적인 문제들이 사실은 영적인 문제들임을 깨닫고 그분의 자비로운 현존에 의탁하여 코로나 상황을 극복할 수 있기를 희망해본다.

We have been living with the Corona virus, something that we had never experienced before, since 2020. This time leads us to be more sensitive to the topic of the existential deficiency of human beings, agony, the feebleness, and humbleness. So the spirituality of Christianity can suggest a spiritual way to overcome this difficult time. Within the church, the 20th and 21st centuries are a time of grace that the Divine Mercy and His merciful presence become realized through God’s special intervention. We call this legacy of the individual spiritual experience the ‘spirituality of mercy’ which descends from St. Faustina and St. John Paul . Then, why does God awaken the revelation of his mercy Ⅱ within people? It is because the world that we live in now needs it more desperately than any other time. The spread of Covid-19 can also be explained in the context of the revelation of Divine Mercy. Looking through the released books and articles on the ‘spirituality of mercy’, it seems that the main studies on the theological reflection of this are considerably insufficient. Because of this, there are some limitations that people who encounter the ‘spirituality of mercy’ for the first time have when they put the fragmentary and external ‘spirituality of mercy’ into practice. This study emphasizes the right way to practice the ‘spirituality of mercy’ is to link it with three things: the principle of the biblical revelation, the historical and theological context from which it comes about, and the current situation in which the Covid-19 is still spreading. On that account, we can realize that the actual difficulties we are now experiencing are attributed to spiritual reasons and we can hope to overcome the current hard times by relying on the presence of Divine Mercy.
