영화 <패왕별희>에 나타난 중국 경극의 시대적 변화 양상 고찰

A Study on the Periodic Changes of Chinese Peking Opera: Focus on the Movie “Farewell My Concubine”

본 연구에서는 영화 <패왕별희>의 분석을 통해 중국의 시대 변화 속에 나타난 경극 예술의 다양한 가치 변화 양상을고찰하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 경극 예술에 대한 이론적 배경을 이해하고, 영화 <패왕별희>의 전개 가운데 나타나는 경극 문화의 시대별 특징을 다양한 문헌 고찰과 더불어 조명해보았다. 영화 속 시대 변화는 총 여섯 가지의 시기로써, 북평 북양 정부 시대에서 77사변 전까지의 시기, 항일전쟁 시기, 일본 항복 시기, 국민정부 철수 시기, 문화대혁명의 시기, 문화대혁명 이후의 시기로 구분되어 살펴진다. 연구의 결과, ‘북평 북양 정부 시대에서 77사변 전까지의 시기’는 ‘경극 예술의 대중화와 전문화의 시기’라고 규정할 수 있다. ‘항일전쟁 시기’는 ‘애국주의 작품의 표출 시기’로써 가치를 지니며, ‘일본 항복 후 시기’는 ‘예술 활동의 위축과 대중성 상실의 시기’라고 조명되어 진다. ‘국민정부 철수 후 시기’는 ‘경극 예술 회복의 시기’라고 규정할 수 있으며, ‘문화대혁명 시기’는 ‘경극 예술의 핍박, 왜곡의 시기’로써 예술적 가치가 정치 선전의 수단으로 전락하고 왜곡되어진 경극 예술의 과도기적 시기로 규명된다. 마지막으로, ‘문화대혁명 후 시기’는 ‘경극예술의 소멸과 재건의 시기’라고 규정할 수 있는데, 문화 유산 복원이 주는 가치의 중요함을 일깨워준 시기로 규명할 수있다. 결론적으로 중국의 경극 예술은 ‘대중화’-‘전문화’-‘이념화’-‘침체기’-‘회복기’-‘문화적 핍박과 왜곡’-‘소멸’로 이어지는극단적 변화 양상을 가진 매우 진귀한 문화 유산으로 결론지을 수 있었으며, 경극 예술인 또한 여러 시대에 거쳐 ‘대중예술인’-‘전문예술인’-‘애국주의자’-‘오락의 도구’-‘존중의 대상’-‘소귀사신’-‘정치 선전도구’-‘사회적 배척’으로 이어지는 수많은 신분 변화를 겪어야 했음을 확인할 수 있었다. 본 연구를 통해 나타난 경극의 흥망성쇠를 통해 문화 보존을 위한 사회적 인식 확립이 얼마나 중요한지 확인할 수 있었으며, 영화 <패왕별희>의 분석과 여러 문헌 연구를 통해 도출된 결론과 의의가 전통 예술의 계승과 발전을 위한 유의미한 연구 자료로 활용되어질 수 있기를 기대한다.

In this study, through the movie “Farewell My Concubine” to investigate the elements of Chinese opera-the theories of Kunqu Opera and Peking Opera, analyze the current situation of Chinese opera culture in various eras and the various artistry changes in opera. Based on the results of the study, people enjoyed Peking Opera and respected the art of Peking Opera since the era of the Beiyang government until the Double-Seven Incident, but the social status of the actors was not high. Peking Opera was very popular and people in the art world had high demand for art of Peking Opera. Art of Peking Opera flourished freely in a safe and stable political environment in this period. Since then, during the Second Sino-Japanese War, the growth environment of Peking Opera had become difficult due to unstable social environment and social status of the actors was not high. During the Kuomintang’s reign, the opera actors were considered objects of entertainment, Peking Opera gradually drifted away from the norms. Affected by the political environment, the situation of Peking Opera was very difficult. In the new era, Peking Opera had become incomplete due to the Cultural Revolution and the situation for Peking Opera was more difficult than ever. Although the status of opera actors in the art world gradually recovered, there were obstacles to the development of Peking Opera due to political reasons. Through this study, it is necessary for China to actively promote Peking Opera as traditional culture and spread the art of Peking Opera to many countries. It is hoped that it can deepen the understanding of China’s traditional art-themed movies and form a complete cultural resonance.
