고기능 자폐성장애인의 차별경험 및 지원요구

Discrimination Experiences and Support Requirements of People with High-Functioning Autism: Focusing on Education and Employment

본 연구의 목적은 현재 사회활동에 참여하고 있는 고기능의 자폐성장애인들이 교육 및 고용영역에서 겪어왔던 직․간접적 차별 경험 및 지원요구를 탐색하는데 있다. 이를 위하여 장애 및 장애인 차별을 주제로 이루어진 국내외 선행연구 검토를 통해 면담의 가이드라인을 작성하였고, 남녀 자폐성장애인 당사자 7명을 연구참여자로 선정하여 개별 심층면담을 진행하였다. 면담을 통해 수집한 자료의 분석 결과, 연구참여자들이 학창시절 전반에 걸쳐 경험한 차별 및 인권침해의 내용을 확인할 수 있었고, 이 시기의 경험이 현재 성인이 된 자폐성장애인의 삶에 미치는 영향을 알 수 있었다. 또한 성인이 된 이후 대학생활 및 직장생활 과정에서 경험한 차별 및 인권침해의 내용을 통해 장애 및 장애인에 대한 현재 우리 사회의 이해 수준을 확인할 수 있었다. 이러한 연구결과를 바탕으로 고기능 자폐성장애인이 사회에서 경험하는 차별을 해소할 수 있는 방안을 모색하기 위한 논의와 후속연구를 제언하였다.

This study is established to explore the direct and indirect discrimination experiences, especially in education and employment, of adults with high-functioning autism who are currently participating in social activities. For this purpose, interview guidelines were prepared by reviewing domestic and foreign research on discrimination towards disability and the disabled. Seven male and female people with autism were selected as research participants and individual in-depth interviews were conducted. The analysis of the data collected through the interview showed that the participants experienced discrimination and human rights violations throughout their school days, and that there exists the influence of those experiences on their current lives. In addition, through the content of the discrimination and human rights violations experienced by the participants during college and working life after becoming an adult, we were able to grasp the current level of understanding of our society about disabilities and people with disabilities. Based on this research result, discussions and follow-up studies were suggested to find ways to resolve the discrimination experienced by people with high-functioning autism in society.
