晩唐 詠史詩의 통속적 특성과 그의 효용적 가치 탐구

The popular trend and efficiency of 『Yongshishi』 by Huzeng

호증의 영사시는 ‘천속’하다는 말로 일갈되면서 기존의 전통 시학 분야에서는 연구 가치를 인정 받지 못하는 경우도 있었다. 그러나 이는 호증 영사시의 통속적 특성과 당시 문학 조류의 조응을 고려하지 못한 편협한 평가방식이다. 호증 영사시는 중국시가 문인 중심 영역에서 탈피하여 대중성을 확보하게 함으로써 새롭게 대두된 몽학 교육의 요구와 새롭게 대두된 대중 문학 장르와의 소통과 융합에 기여하게 한다. 호증은『 영사시』「 자서」에서 “역사를 마름질하여 당세를 사는데 도움을 준다”고 영사시 창작 의도를 밝혔다. 호증의 이러한 의도아래 창작된 영사시는 실제로 어린아이들도 쉽게 이해할 수 있을 만큼 매우 통속적인 언어와 일정한 도식적 구조를 지니고 있었다. 그러나 동시에 내용적으로는 천하의 안위를 걱정하고 성군을 우러르며 민생의 질고를 근심하고 탐관오리와 간신배를 배척하는 전통유가 사상 고양에 적합한 내용을 포함하고 있었다. 이는 오히려 당시의 몽학18)교육을 위한 내용과 형식에 적합했다. 이에 훈몽 교재로 호증 영사시는 중국에서 성행했을 뿐 아니라 일본에도 영향을 미쳤다. 만당에서 원·명·청 그리고 주변국에 이르기까지 호증의 영사시는 통속적 특성을 장점으로 몽학의 요구에 부응하여 전문적인 몽학교재로써 활용될 수 있었고 이후에는 몽학교재로써 얻게 된 광범위한 대중적 인지를 기반으로 아속문학의 융합과 발전에 지대한 공헌을 했다.

The popular characteristic of “Yongshishi” of Huzeng was recognized for its efficiency as a children’s learning textbook, and was recognized as a “required” learning book that not only literature but also the general public learned and memorized first. In terms of artistry, it was evaluated as inferior to the traditional literature of poetics, but this was evaluated only by the artistry of poetry faithful to literary value, not in consideration of the efficiency of popular characteristic and the mutual influence of trend of literature. Huzeng expressed his intention to create Yongshishi, saying, “It helps us live the present by drying up history.” The historical poem created under Huzeng’s intention actually had a very popular language and a certain schematic structure that even children could easily understand, but in terms of content, it contained content suitable for enhancing traditional ethics, making it the first educational textbook of the time. Accordingly, Huzeng’s historical poetry as a children’s education textbook not only prevailed in China but also affected Japan.
