하페즈(Hafez) 시에 나타난 메타포의 다중적 활용

Multiple Use of Metaphor Shown in Hafez’s Poetry: Focusing on Metaphor of ‘Love’

13세기 페르시아에서 활동한 하페즈는 괴테가 사랑한 시인으로 알려져 있다. 괴테는 하페즈의 시에서 영감을 얻어 서정시 ‘서동시집’을 집필했고, 이것이 유럽과 아시아권에 소개되면서 하페즈도 함께 서정시인으로 알려지게 되었다. 하지만 하페즈는 주로 페르시아 신비주의 종교철학인 ‘에르펀’(Erfan)과 사회 비판을 주제로 시를 썼다. 하페즈가 활동하던 시기 페르시아는 이민족의 침략과 압제로 인해 작가들이 직설적으로 사회를 비판하거나 종교철학을 설파할 수 없었다. 자신의 생각과 핵심주제를 전달할 방편으로 하페즈는 다양한 상징과 메타포를 사용했다. 그래서 하페즈의 시는 상징과 메타포 해석에 따라 그 내용이 달라진다. 이러한 이유로 하페즈 시 해석을 둘러싼 논란이 끊임없이 있어왔다. 본 논문에서는 하페즈 시에 나타난 상징과 메타포를 분석하여 하페즈 시의 다양한 해석 가능성을 제시하고자 한다.

Hafez who was actively working in Persia of the 13th century, is known as a poet loved by Goethe. Goethe, who was inspired by Hafez’s poetry, wrote the ‘West-Eastern Divan’ of lyric poetry. After it was introduced to Europe and Asia, Hafez also started to be known as a lyric poet. However, Hafez mostly wrote his poems under the theme of social criticism and ‘Erfan,’ which was a religious philosophy of Persian mysticism. In the time when Hafez was actively working, the authors in Persia could not directly criticize the society or preach the philosophy of religion due to the invasion and oppression by other ethnic groups. As a method to deliver his own thinking and core theme, Hafez used various symbols and metaphors. Thus, the contents of Hafez’s poetry could be changed according to the interpretation of symbols and metaphors. For this reason, there has been continuous controversy over the interpretation of Hafez’s poetry. This thesis aims to present the possibility of various interpretations of Hafez’s poetry by analyzing the symbols and metaphors shown in Hafez’s poetry.
