John Burningham의 그림책에 나타난 유아상에 대한 현상학적 연구

Phenomenological Study on Images of Child in John Burningham’s Picture Book

이 연구는 John Burningham의 그림책에 나타난 유아상을 현상학적으로 이해하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이러한 연구 목적을 달성하기 위해 Burningham의 그림책 중 유아의 생활세계가 잘 드러난 작품 알도, 마법침대, 에드와르도 세상에서 가장 못된아이, 동생이 태어날 거야 네 권의 그림책을 선정하여 분석하였다. 분석방법은 선정된 그림책 내용을 극화코딩하여 해석한 다음 각 그림책에 나타난 유아상을 현상학적 관점으로 분석하였다. 연구 결과 Burningham의 그림책에 나타난 유아상은 ‘상상을 통해 어려움을 극복하는 유아’, ‘자신의 욕망(마법침대)를 지키고 실현하는 유아’, ‘주체적으로 행동하는 유아’, ‘사랑받고 사랑할 줄 아는 유아’로 나타났다. 유아상 연구를 통해 고유하고 독립된 존재로서의 유아의 본성을 인식하고, 이를 바탕으로 유아가 유아답게 성장하도록 돕는 교육을 구현한다는 점에서 그 교육적 의의를 찾을 수 있다.

The purpose of this study is to phenomenologically understand the child’s images, which is the existential characteristic of early childhood shown in John Burningham’s picture books. In order to achieve the research purpose, we selected and analyzed four volumes of John burningham’s picture books that show the Child’s Life-World well: <Aldo>, <The Magic Bed>,<Edwardo, The horriblest boy in the whole wide world>,<Theres going to be a baby>. As a research method, analyzed based on phenomenological study the data shown by dramaturgical coding of the selected picture books. Based to the theoretical exploration and discussion, the child’s images shown in John Burningham’s picture book can be presented as follows. ‘the child overcoming difficulties through imagination’, ‘the child trying to protect and fill his/her own desires(magic bed)’,‘the child acting independently’, and ‘the child be loved can love another.’ Through the above discussions, can recognizes the child as an unique and independent existential characteristics, and can implement education to help child grow up like a child.
