Images of the Johannine Logos: Analyzing the Relationships with Philo’s Logos and Personified Wisdom

본 연구는 제2차 성전과 초기 랍비 시대 전반에 걸쳐 유대인의 지혜 문헌과 초기 기독교 문헌에서 주요하게 나타나는 필로의 로고스와 인격화된 지혜의 개념과 그들의 이미지들(천사적, 신적)을 분석하고, 이를 바탕으로 요한복음의 서문에 나타나는 요한의 로고스의 이미지들과의 관계성과 특징들에 대해 고찰한다. 이 연구는 요한의 로고스의 기원들로 추정되는 영지주의, 헬레니즘, 다면적(팔레스타인, 헬레니즘, 랍비) 유대교와 요한의 유일한 신학적 특징들을 전체적으로 고려하면서, 우선적으로 요한복음의 서문의 본문 분석을 수행한다. 이 연구는 필로의 로고스와 인격화된 지혜, 그리고 토라의 개념과의 상호교류와 관계성 속에서 나타나는 그들의 천사적, 신적 이미지들에 대한 간본문적, 철학적, 해석학적인 특징들을 찾아내고, 나아가 이러한 특징들이 요한의 로고스에 나타나는 천사적, 신적 이미지들과 어떠한 관련성이 있는지 신학적, 해석학적, 현상학적 관점에서 자세하게 조사하고 규명한다. 이 연구는 고대 유대-기독교 사상의 역사에서 명백하게 나타나는 로고스, 지혜, 토라와 같은 위격적 중재자의 개념들 사이의 복합적이고 역동적인 상호작용에 대해 현상학적으로 분석하면서, 이를 바탕으로 특별히 요한의 로고스의 그 두 이미지들에 대한 저자의 신학적 의도와 해석학적 전략들(비유와 상징)을 유추하고 재조명한다. 결론적으로, 이 연구는 다양한 위격적 개념들에 대한 보다 심층적인 문헌학적 연구의 필요성 뿐만 아니라, 신약의 기독교 교리(즉, 삼위일체) 연구 및 유대-기독교 사상의 신학적, 철학적 상호교류에 대한 연구에 기여할 요한의 로고스의 이미지들(메시아적, 천사적, 신적)에 대한 보다 깊고 광범위한 현상학적 연구의 중요성을 시사한다.

This study examines the images of the Johannine Logos in the Prologue to the Gospel of John by analyzing the two images (angelic and God-like) of Philo s Logos and personified Wisdom, which mainly appear in Jewish wisdom literature and early Christian sources throughout the Second Temple and early Rabbinic periods. It primarily conducts a textual analysis of the Johannine Prologue while considering the supposed origins of the Johannine Logos, such as Gnosticism, Hellenism, multifaceted (Palestinian, Hellenistic, Rabbinic) Judaism, as well as idiosyncratic Johannine theology. It also investigates and identifies the existence and phenomenological characteristics of the angelic and God-like images of the Johannine Logos as they are intertextually and theologically related to the two images of Philo’s Logos, personified Wisdom and Torah in Jewish wisdom literature and early Rabbinic literature. It further analyzes the features of the two images of the Johannine Logos and the complex and dynamic interactions between the hypostatic mediators, such as Logos, Wisdom, and Torah by analyzing the authors’ theological intentions and hermeneutic strategies (i.e., allegory and symbolism), which are manifest throughout the history of ancient Jewish and Christian thought. It suggests not only the necessity of in-depth philological research of more hypostatic notions against the backdrop of the Johannine Logos but also the importance of a broader phenomenological research of the images (messianic, angelic, and God-like) of the Johannine Logos, which would contribute to the study of the Christian (i.e., Trinitarian) doctrine in the New Testament and of the theological and philosophical interactions of Jewish-Christian thought.
