심각한 문제행동을 보이는 발달장애아 부모의 양육경험

A Study on the Experience of Parents of Children with Developmental Disabilities Having Severe Behavioral Problems

이 연구에서는 심각한 문제행동을 보이는 발달장애아 부모들의 양육 경험과 그 의미를 알아보기 위하여 발달장애아 부모 6인과 심층 면담을 수행하였다. 심각한 문제행동을 보이는 발달장애아동의 부모는 끊임없이 고통을 경험하며, 교육과 사회의 지원을 통해 상황이 개선될 것이라는 기대가 좌절될 때 고통이 심화되었다. 그러나 가족 역량의 강화를 통해 고비를 이겨나갈 힘을 얻고, 학교의 다양한 시도와 연구, 교사의 중재, 지역사회 이웃의 지지를 통해 고통을 극복할 수 있었다. 참여자들은 더 많은 특수교사와 문제행동 전문가, 학교졸업 이후를 위한 기관의 확충과 자녀가 안전하게 살아갈 수 있는 생활공간의 지원을 필요로 했다. 가족의 역량 강화가 장애아동 양육의 어려움을 극복하는데 도움이 된다는 점에서 이 연구는 기존의 연구 결과들을 지지한다. 그러나 아동의 심각한 문제행동으로 인한 어려움을 극복하기 위해서는 교육기관과 지역 사회의 전문적이고 직접적인 지원이 확충되어야 함을 확인할 수 있었다.

This study was conducted in-depth interviews with 6 parents of children with developmental disabilities having severe behavioral problems in order to investigate their upbringing experiences. They have faced constant pain. The pain deepened when they didn’t meet expectations which improve their situations through educations and social supports. However, they were able to overcome the hurdles through reinforcement of family capacities and various attempts which were researches of the school, the intervention of the teachers, and the support of the community neighbors. They needed more special teachers, experts of behavioral problems and expansion of institutions for post-graduation, and support for safe living spaces for their children. This study supports the results of previous studies showing that family capacity enhancement contributes to overcoming the difficulties. However, it was confirmed that professional and direct support from educational institutions and local communities needs to be expanded in order to overcome the difficulties caused by the serious behavioral problems.
