프랑스 의철학 연구의 두 측면

Two aspects of the philosophy of medicine in France

20세기에 새롭게 등장한 의철학은 크게 영미철학과 프랑스철학이라는 서로 다른 두 철학적 전통 속에서 전개되었다. 영미철학 전통의 의철학은 구체적이며 실천적이라는 특징을 가진다면, 프랑스철학 전통의 의철학은 추상적이며 확장적이라는 특징을 가진다. 21세기 들어 프랑스를 대표하는 두 철학 학술지인 『RPFE』와 『RMM』은 각각 한 번씩 의철학을 주제로 삼아 학술지를 발행했으며, 각각 영미철학 전통의 의철학 연구와 프랑스철학 전통의 의철학 연구를 수록하고 있다. 프랑스 철학계 내에서 실제로 이루어지고 있는 작업의 극히 일부에 불과하지만, 이 연구들에 대한 검토를 통해 프랑스 철학계에서 벌어지고 있는 영미철학 전통의 의철학 연구와 여전히 지속되고 있는 프랑스철학 전통의 의철학의 연구 상황을 확인할 수 있다. 영미철학 전통의 의철학을 소개하고 있는 『RPFE』에 수록된 논문들은 현재 매우 제한된 수의 연구자들이 국제적 수준의 논의를 진행하고 있는 프랑스 내 영미철학 전통의 의철학 연구 상황을 엿볼 수 있게 해주고, 생명윤리라는 한정된 주제와 관련하여 깡귀엠을 다루고 있는 『RMM』의 논문들은 언제나 의철학 그 이상의 것으로 확장되려는 프랑스철학 전통의 의철학이 가지는 그 확장적 특성을 확인할 수 있게 해준다.

The philosophy of medicine that emerged in the 20th century was developed in two different philosophical traditions: Anglo-Saxon and French philosophy. The former has the characteristics of being concrete and practical, while the latter has the characteristics of being abstract and expansive. In 2009 and 2014, each of the two leading philosophical journals in France, RPFE and RMM, published journals in the subject of philosophy of medicine. The RPFE dealt with the medical philosophical studies of the Anglo-Saxon philosophical tradition, and the RMM dealt with the medical philosophical studies of the French philosophical tradition. Despite these extremely limited sources, it is possible to confirm the research situation of the philosophy of medicine in the French philosophy community through a review of the papers contained in these journals. The papers in the RPFE, which introduce the philosophy of medicine in the tradition of Anglo-Saxon philosophy, show that a very limited number of researchers in France are currently conducting international level discussions on the philosophy of medicine. Also, RMM s papers discussing Canguilhem on the limited subject of bioethics confirm the expansive nature of the philosophy of medicine in the French philosophical tradition, which always wants to be more than the philosophy of medicine.
