｢운영전｣의 궁녀들

The court ladies in ｢un-yeong-jeon｣: Exceptional beings who resist absolute power

본고의 목적은 ｢운영전｣의 궁녀들이 어떤 존재인가를 해명하는 것이다. 그들은 단지 당대의 궁녀를 표상하는 데 그치지 않는다. 그들은 수성궁이라는 특수 공간, 안평대군이라는 절대 권력, 김진사라는 젊은 선비 등과 연결되어 궁녀로서의 전형성을 탈피하여 자신들의 존재론적 의미를 심각하게 발산하는 인물들이다. 궁녀들은 백성에서 궁녀, 궁녀에서 수성궁의 궁녀, 수성궁에서 다시 서궁과 남궁이라는 특수한 환경 속에서 ‘목적을 가지지 않은 것을 목적으로 하는 존재’로 위치하는데 이는 ‘예외 상태’를 통한 통치를 추구한 안평대군의 통치 방식과 긴밀하게 연관되어 있다. 본고는 이에 주목하여 ｢운영전｣의 궁녀들은 배제와 포함의 관계에 의한 예외 상태의 존재로서 ‘살아남아 있지 않을’ 잠재성을 발현하여 권력의 작동 방식과 연관되는 인간(생명)의 존재론적 의미에 대해 무거운 질문을 던진 인물임을 밝혔다. 살아남아 있지 않을 수 있는 잠재성 발현을 통한 그들의 문제 제기는 안평대군, 수성궁, 조선이라는 시공간에 한정되지 않는다. 권력이 작동하는 곳이면 언제 어디서든 유의미한 것이다. 그러므로 그들의 저항은, 목적 없이 살아 있어야 하는 존재, 즉 영원히 예외 상태에 머물러야 하는 존재가 더 이상 재생산되지 않도록 하기 위해 권력의 작동 방식에 어떻게 저항할 수 있는가를 보여준 것이라 할 수 있다. 이런 차원에서 그들의 목숨을 건 문제 제기는 시대 초월적이며 큰 울림으로 독해될 수 있는 것이다. 본고는 궁녀들의 저항이 지니는 궁극적 의미가 바로 이에 있다고 생각한다.

The purpose of this paper is to elucidate what kind of beings the court ladies in ｢un-yeong-jeon｣. They do not just represent the court ladies of the time. They are connected with the special space of Su-seong-gung, the absolute power of An-pyeong-dae-gun, and a young scholar named Kim Jin-sa, who break away from their typicality as court ladies and radiate serious ontological meaning. They are positioned as ‘existences with no purpose’ in the special environment, from the people to the court lady, from the court lady to the court lady of Su-seong-gung, and from Su-seong-gung again to the Seo-gung and Nam-gung. This is closely related to the ruling method of An-pyeong-dae-gun, which is to rule through the ‘state of exception’. In this paper, paying attention to this, the court ladies in ｢un-yeong-jeon｣ express the potentiality of ‘not to remain alive’ as the existence of a state of exception due to the relationship between exclusion and inclusion, and the ontological meaning of human (life) related to the way power works. He revealed that he was a person who posed heavy questions about The issue of potential manifestation that may not remain alive is not limited to a specific time and space. Wherever power is at work, it is meaningful. Their resistance, therefore, shows how they can counter the workings of power in order to prevent any further reproduction of beings that have to live without purpose, that is, beings that have to remain in a state of exception forever. Therefore, raising the question that risked their life is timeless and can be read with great resonance. This paper believes that this is the ultimate meaning of the resistance of court ladies.
