토니 모리슨의 『빌러비드』

Tony Morrison s Beloved: A Study on the Value of Care Ethics by Carol Gilligan

  • 48

This study examines the positive values of social change that care ethics will bring based on Carol Gilligan s feminist theory. And it aims to provide a new framework for ethical awareness to black communities that are trapped in moral thinking and conflict with individuals suffering. Morality theory, such as morality of justice, differs from feminine morality, which values emotional relations with others in that the subject makes moral judgments independently rather than specific relationships with others in the process of human equality and moral judgment It is worth noting that the morality of this justice is related to the concept of independent masculine identity. Gilegan raises that the feminine ethics of care can be an alternative to male-centered morality rather than simply considering the propensity of the female self. Beloved seeks to restore the identity of the community as well as individuals, paying attention to the position of a mother who killed her rather than allowing her daughter to become a slave. The black woman, who killed her child, attributes the source of all sins to herself, feels shame, and is trapped in moral shackles that cannot overcome the state of trauma. The core of this case is not the sincerity of black mothers, but in what context and coercion were given to slave women, and unconditional assistance is required. The attitude of acknowledging and accepting differences and pursuing coexistence is the most desirable way of life for humans. In the midst of conflict and disconnection between the past and the present, Morrison s message to us would be to look into and care for each other s wounds that have not healed.
