박동량의 『기재사초』

사관 역임 시 군주를 호종하던 시기에 작성된 박동량의 『기재사초』는 임진왜란 초기 전황과 관료들의 행적, 백성들이 겪은 고통의 구체적인 실상 등을 파악하는데 매우 요긴한 자료의 하나이다. 전쟁 당시 대명 외교에 큰 역할을 수행했던 찬자는, 개전 초기 군주를 호종하여 의주까지 가면서 누구보다 현장감 넘치는 전쟁을 직접 경험했다. 군주를 가까운 거리에서 모시면서 견문했던 국정 운영 사실과 전쟁의 체험을 기록으로 남겼다. 조선시대 공적 기록물로서 최고의 인용 가치를 지니는 실록에서 확인할 수 없는 내용을 『기재사초』에서 확인할 수 있다는 점에서 무엇보다 주목된다. 특히 임진왜란 발생 초기 관료가 작성한 피난일기의 하나로서, 전쟁의 실상을 생생하게 전하고 있다. 전쟁 전후 시기의 정치와 경제, 사회와 문화, 외교와 군사 및 민생문제와 당대 활동한 인물들에 대한 평가까지 기록되어 있다는 점에서 『기재사초』의 의미와 가치를 확인할 수 있다.

Park Dong-ryang s 『Gijaesacho』, written during the time of serving the monarch as a historiographer, is an important source for understanding the conditions of the early days of the Imjin War, the actions of bureaucrats, and the sufferings of the people in detail. Park, who played a critical role in diplomacy against the Ming Dynasty during the war, experienced the war more realistically than anyone else as he went to Uiju to escort the king s chariot at the beginning of the war. He recorded the facts of state affairs and the experiences of the war, which he observed and heard while serving the monarch at a close distance. 『Gijaesacho』 is especially noteworthy in that it contains information not found in Sillok (Veritable Records of the Joseon Dynasty), which have the highest citation value as public records of the state. In particular, it is one of the evacuation diaries written by bureaucrats at the beginning of the Imjin War, and vividly conveys the reality of the war. 『Gijaesacho』 is also historiographically significant insofar as it records politics and economy, society and culture, diplomacy, military and people’s livelihood issues of the pre- and post-war period, as well as evaluations of people who were active at the time.
