This study explores articles titled “Students Column” published in Wolgan Amerika. These articles not only acted as a source of English education for young Koreans but also as a tool of US public diplomacy amid the mounting cold war and the unstable political situation of South Korea in 1949-1950. Drawing on the socio-narrative approach, this study analyzes the translations as well as the grammar notes of the articles. The results show that the narratives which emphasized American leadership, the uncooperative Soviet Union, US friendship, and the superiority of American-style democracy were promoted. These narratives would ultimately lead to the consolidation of the US hegemony in East Asia and more broadly in world politics.
