근대 야담 작가 연구의 외연 확장과 시선의 전환

Focusing on the Extensions and the Transition of Eyes about Modern Yadam Writers-Writer of 『Wolgan-Yadam』 and ‘Jangdeokjo’-

본고는 근대 야담 작가에 주목하고 이들에 대한 관심을 확장해야 한다는 취지의 제언을 했다. 현재까지 근대 야담 연구는 ‘대중’과 ‘통속’이라는 전제로 쉬이 귀결되곤 했는데, 개별 작가들에 대한 면밀한 고찰과 더불어 그들의 문학관과 야담이 만나는 지점을 살펴야 더욱 정치한 결론이 나올 수 있을 것이다. 이를 위해 『월간야담』의 작가군과 ‘장덕조’를 대표적 사례로 살펴보았다. 장덕조는 2세대 신여성 작가로 야담 집필에 적극 참여한 독특한 인물이었다. 비록 『월간야담』에 새로운 시선을 드리우지는 않았지만, 가족과 애정으로 대변되는 전통적 가치관을 옹호하면서 전통적 한문세대의 습속을 유지하는 한편, 20대 초반 여성문인의 한계와 의의를 보여주었다. 그녀는 『월간야담』에 가장 많은 글을 기고하면서 다양한 실험정신으로 월간야담의 주도적 집필진이 되었고, 당대 일상의 체험을 고전적 세계관을 전유하여 재현하면서 가정과 국가에 대한 보수적이고 원칙적인 문학적 특색을 드러내었다. 때문에 장덕조의 야담 집필은 역사소설을 예비하거나 단순히 경제적인 이유가 아니라, 추후 그녀의 다작활동에 대한 기반이자, 당시 그녀가 가졌던 삶과 문학의 정체성을 보여주는 지표로 기능한다. 따라서 그녀를 통속과 대중이라는 특징 속에서 자신만의 소재와 수법을 통해 현대문학사 뿐 아니라 근대 야담사에 자리 잡고 있었던 한 인물로 주목할 필요성이 있다.

This paper suggested that we should pay attention to modern night writers and expand our interest in them. Up to now, modern Yadam studies have been easily concluded on the premise of the masses and the customs, but only after careful consideration of individual writers and looking at the place where their literary views and Yadam meet could a more politicized conclusion be reached. To that end, the writer of the 『Wolgan-Yadam』 and Jang Deok-jo were looked at as examples. Jang Deok-jo was a second-generation female writer and a unique writer who actively participated in Yadam writing. Although a historical romance 『Wolgan-Yadam』 not cast, but a line of sight, women in traditional Chinese characters, advocating traditional values represented by family and love generation of the folkways. On the other hand, to maintain the limits and shows the significance of women writers in their early 20s. However, she contributed the most articles in the 『Wolgan-Yadam』, becoming the leading author of the 『Wolgan-Yadam』 with various experimental spirit, and showed conservative and principled literary characteristics for the family and country by recreating the daily experiences of the time with the classical world view. Therefore, Jang Deok-jo s Yadam writing serves as an indicator of the life and literary identity she had at the time, not simply for economic reasons or for her preliminary historical novel. So She needs to be noted for being one of the most popular characters in the modern history of yadam as well as modern literature through her own materials and methods.
