A Study on the criticize of 『Gongjagauh』

Choi-Sul’s(1740~1816) 『Susagosinrok』 is a systematic trace on Confucius and the ‘Gongjagauh’ in the book is being intensively criticized. As it is a common fact, the ‘Gongjagauh’ is forgery book(僞書) on Confucius written by Wi(魏)’s Wang-Sook(王肅) borrowing Gong-Angook(公安國)’s name. However despite the fact that ‘Gongjagauh’ is a false writing, the fact that it is a positive data by providing abundant information on Confucius’s life and past is an undeniable fact. This is why countless people quote this book when they mention the life of Confucius. Nevertheless, the criticism by Choi-Sul on ‘Gongjagauh’ is sometimes too much. This papers aims to figure out why he intensively criticized ‘Gongjagauh’ and to know the implied intentions inside his book. By doing this the author also tries to grasp the writing intention of the whole ‘『Susagosinrok』’. Therefore, this paper examines Choi-Sul’s basic cognitive system in 『Susagosinrok』 on ‘Gongjagauh and studies Choi-Sul’s actual details and facts aon his criticism, and finally, the author examined the principles and characteristics of the criticism. With the aims mentioned above, the author tried to investigate the ultimate intentions Choi-Sul had in his ‘『Susagosinrok』’ for criticizing the truth of ‘Gongjagauh’. According to Choi-Sul, he claims that WangSook who forged the ‘Gongjagauh’ plagiarized Lao-tzu and Chaung-tzu like a thief and harmed Confucius’s honor in a superficial manner which aghasted and enraged Choi-Sul. This was an unpardonable and high crime to Choi-Sul who was trying to scientifically demonstrate the real worth of Sasul(邪說) Confucius’s life. Therefore, Choi-Sul was armed with the ‘以經爲主論’ which was based on a sacred book and intensively denunciated Confucius and the criminal Wangsook with the ‘Gongjagauh’. This was the life goal of Choi-Sul who was know for the ‘科學的 古史家’ and as a result his work ‘『Susagosinrok』’ was appreciated as the crowning achievement of Qin Dynasty documental archaeology and is finally being recognized and is seeing the light.
