교회 내 새로운 질서(New Normal)

‘New Normal’ in the Church: Based on the ‘Ecclesial Society’

교황령 『거룩한 규율법』에서는 교회를 “사회적이고 가시적 조직체”로, 교회법전 『서문』에는 “외적이고 볼 수 있고 독립적인 사회”로 선포하고 있다. 곧 교회는 ‘교회적 사회’로서 코로나 19와 함께 힘겹게 살아가고 있으며 ‘새로운 질서(New Normal)’를 거듭 거듭 바꿔가며 적응하고 있다. 이 ‘새로운 질서’는 인터넷 기반의 소셜 미디어 환경을 발전시켰다. 교회는 인터넷을 통해 멀어진 신앙인들 간의 사회적 관계성을 비대면 혹은 비접촉의 방법으로라도 회복시키는데 공을 세우고 있다. 하지만 교회 내 ‘새로운 질서’는 오히려 교회의 본질인 공동체성을 회복하지 못하고 ‘교회가 없는 교회’의 모습이 드러나게 하였다. 정작 교회에 적응시켜야 하는 ‘새로운 질서’는 ‘교회가 있는 교회’가 되도록 해야 한다. 곧 교회는 ‘포모증후군(FoMo Syndrome)’에 탑승하여 세상의 질서를 쫓아가기 보다는 세상의 질서로부터 거리두기(JoMo)를 통해 교회의 공동체성을 회복해야만 한다. 신자들이 직접적으로 모인 공동체 안에서 예수님과의 직접적인 만남이 이루어질 수 있도록 말이다. 교회에는 신자들과의 거리두기가 아닌 세상으로부터의 거리두기를 실천해야 할 때가 온 것이다.

The Apostolic Constitution Sacrae Displinae Leges and the Preface of the Code of Canon Law proclaim the Church is organized “as a social and visible structure” and “as an external, visible and independent society.” In that sense, the church is struggling with COVID-19 as an ‘Ecclesial Society’ and continually adapting to the changes of the ‘New Normal.’ This ‘New Normal’ has developed an internet-based social media environment. Using even non-face-to-face or contactless methods, the Church attempts to restore social relationships among the believers, who have become distant by the Internet. However, the ‘New Normal’ within the Church has not restored her community nature, which is the essence of the Church, but revealed the image of a ‘Church without the ecclesial.’ The ‘New Normal’ that needs to be adapted to the Church should be a ‘Church with the ecclesial.’ In short, the Church should recover her community nature by keeping its distance from the normal of the world (JoMo) instead of jumping on the ‘FoMo Syndrome’ and chasing after the normal of the world. By doing so, the believers may meet Jesus in their gatherings in a direct way. The time has come for the Church to practice distancing from the world, not from the believers.
