The court dance during Chosun period, called ‘Jung-jae’ bases off Ye-ak philosophy as its philosophical background. The aim of Ye-ak philosophy is carrying out ideal and harmonious politics. Therefore, Jung-jae created during a certain period can be said to be created upon certain political background for a consistent political purpose. This thesis studied the concrete background and purpose of the creation of four Jung-jae repertories; Geuncheonjung ․ Soomyeongmyeong created during Chosun under Taejong by Haryun, and Hahwangeun ․ Haseongmyeong created during early Sae- jong reign by Byeon, Gyeryang. As a result, the two pieces by Haryun during Taejong reign were found to be created for the political purpose of achieving legitimacy of succeeding crown and strengthening the royal power. On the other hand, the two pieces by Byeon, Gyeryang during early Saejong reign were found to be created wishing to lead peace and prosperity by ascertaining the diplomatic relationship with the Myeong Dynasty. In conclusion, Chosun had actively used Jung-jae which had the both characteristics of ‘Ye’and ‘Ak’ in achieving domestic and diplomatic goals.
