Goryeo song [Dongdonggamu] is the song and dance passed down from Koguryeo. Dongdonggamu was recognized as lyrics praising the emperor and established as movement song. The lyrics except for the beginning line of [Dongdong] does not have the subject consciousness of compliment on the king and affection between man and woman forms a basis and the routine life of subjects is laid. Joseon Dynasty transformed this song loved by subjects into movement and widely used as court’s [Jinyeonyeakga]. If there was no background account of dance and song and lyric work of [Jeongwajeong] and [Samiingok], it would be interpreted as eager love song between man and woman. We know Goryeo dance and song [Gasiri] as a love song. However, given a fact that this song was included in [Akjanggasa] and a chorus of ‘Wijeungjeulga Taepyeongsungdae’, it can be the movement of Koryeojo which sang the condolence on the death of King Sun. Given this fact, there is a probability that Joseon Dynasty transformed [Dongdonggamu] into movement song. The loyalty on the king is multiplied compared to the love song of couple. Joseon Dynasty combined [Dongdong] with East Asian scriptures such as [Sigyeong] and transformed [Dongdong], our traditional song into Chinese movement and used for formal reception in order to make it more dignified movement. Therefore, [Dongdong] is not only the oldest song but also a song having long-standing life transmitted and transformed for more than 1 millennium.
