Perspective in Yoon Ki(尹愭)’s literature is known to be as follows: The purpose of poems and writings is not to entertain readers with description of the nature such as bright full moon but to satirize the upper echelons of society by recording the reality as it appears. Instead of criticizing the upper class directly, Yoon Ki made his pieces with animals, figurative characters. To understand his intentions, we’ll look through how animals in Yoon Ki’s literature are described and what they stand for. First, for those animals in Yoon Ki’s literatures, many researches focused on a fable prose(寓言散文). In fact, when looking into a collection of Yoon Ki’s works, approximately 66 works are considered to be shown in the title directly or use animal as the subject. In the cases of serial poetry(連作詩) or idle talk(雜說), they show a single title but develop into several different topics, as it goes deeper. Roughly, there are more than seventy works of poetry that address animal as a subject matter or the subject itself. This dissertation discusses the description and the meaning of animals in Yoon Ki’s literature in this follows: First, Took examples of poetry that address animal description and Looked into how Yoon Ki described them. Second, Analyzed concretely a fable prose which had been studied to a certain degree. Third, Looked into various animal description that was neglected for discussion. Fourth, Demonstrated that animals’ network of meaning is not simple as it may seem, especially, the meaning of certain animal could be varied accordance with situation. Fifth, Delved into the emblem(寓意) rooted from the embodiment of animals. Through these steps, I’d like to demonstrate Yoon Ki’s ability to write a fable and his literary grace. Yoon Ki’s literary tendency corresponds with that of a fable(寓言). For the conclusion, he tends to accord typicality to animals described in his chinese poem, and a fable prose; moreover, he regularly shows certain mental phenomenon on specific period of time. Wish discussion develops further, lightening the true value of his literary grace in fable literature.
