This presentation is prepared as an introduction of a special issue of Gisaeng and SinoKorean literature. Gisaeng is a very small theme in the SinoKorean literature field. And, Gisaengs during the Chosun Dynasty were typical minorities. This is why the study on Gisaeng requires a very strict ethical attitude. Because of this ethical obligation, a hasty interpretation shall be postponed and every effort should be made to secure a base of an objective interpretation as possible as we can. This article tries to mention about several considerations related to researches regarding Gisaeng-SinoKorean literature. First, SinoKorean literature and Gisaeng is a very weird combination. It is because that there are hierarchy between Character media/writers/readers in terms of gender and status. So, the matter about who is the real speaker shall be closely observed. Second, Gisaeng needs to be identified as one point of a matrix of the Patriarchal society during the Chosun Dynasty. Each point on this matrix moves in the same line. If Gisaeng is separated from this whole matrix and interpreted, it would be a superficially sentimental interpretation or it would be incorrectly interpreted. Third, the activity of subaltern shall be actively interpreted. Even subalterns also implement various survival strategies within the matrix. Dynamics created while this kind of activity conflicts with the activity of other players should be actively read. Fourth, we need to reflect on ourselves whether the perspective of this study regenerates the patriarchal view of the Chosun Dynasty in another form. This is connected to the full-fledged reflection on the view of value of male chauvinism/paternalism/Confucianism, which has been disguised as unversiality/generality. At the same time, the biggest benefit of the study on the minorities is that we can earn a totally new view of value and perspective.
