龍洲 趙絅의 應旨 上疏에 나타난 현실 비판과 그 의미

A Study on the Memorial to the Throne(疏箚) of Yongjoo(龍洲) Jo Kyeng(趙絅)

In this paper, I analyzed the memorials to the Throne of Yongjoo Jo Kyeng and tried to draw the characteristics to examine the perception on criticism of realities of the literati in mid Choson dynasty. The main aspects are as follows: First, he embodied his critical consciousness through the detailed description of concrete realities. He tried to make his argument more persuasive with the logical completion, so he described the disaster situations quite minutely and concretely, instead of giving a simple summary. Second, he criticize the king straightforwardly. He realized his integrity and loyalty toward the king by criticizing him using proper writing styles in context. Third, he emphasized the importance of the public opinions. In his point of view, it is essential that the king gives an ear to remonstrance for administrating state affairs, and he did not hesitate to convey his ideas on this matter with harsh criticism.
