From his two experiences of crossing over to Japan, Anyongbok was admitted national sovereignty of Dokdo and Ulleungdo, and was confirmed prohibition of the Japanese crossing the border and doing fishing. However, Anyongbok’s behavior brought numerous controversy among the ministers of the Royal Court at the time. Countless arguments which claimed that he should be put to death stood, but eventually Anyongbok was sent into exile. Where, or how long had he have to undergo through the hardship of his exile is unknown, but he was credited for the results of his actions even if he violated the prohibited law of crossing the boarder and could have caused a border dispute. Yet if we look at his actions a little closer, they have the accomplishment of his personal desires as the primary purpose. The achievements that Anyongbok made and evaluations of him would also be the same as that. Namguman, who most positively appraisedAnyongbok’s achievements and most strongly opposed to his death, also shows us ambivalent aspects between Anyongbok’s achievements and treatment. Anyongbok was considered as a man who accomplished remarkable achievements but also as a way to solve the problems that could take place later on. Ultimately, he was defined as a purpose and a method at the same time. Because of the fact that Anyongbok’s achievements are based on personal desires, it’s value could not be devaluated. The result should be accepted as itself, and the intention that became the background could not be regarded as the specific behavioral pattern that embraces the whole process of the behavior. Like this, there is no need for the positive appraisements and acknowledgments that Namguman had about Anyongbok to be criticized or be denied by his ambivalent view. This is because the duplicity that Namguman’s view isn’t denying Anyongbok and his accomplishments, but was showing his position which has to solve the problems that might happen in the future. Judging from this, Namguman and Anyongbok could be seen as an identical but at the same time dissimilar being that lives a different realitiy in the common factor, Joseon. Anyongbok that Namguman saw, it is thought that the meaning of the entangling of the view stands here.
