After Toigye s death, the Toigye school seemed to spilt into petty clique. The subdivide was not due to the divergence of opinion about learning but to the recognition of reality and the concept of official life. Under such conditions, Kyoumam Ryu Woon Ryoung could keep his balance among the Literati s trouble and antagonism. In fact, he did not make his own clique. This was mainly due to his personality and philosophy on life. Kyoumam was a man of toughness and moderateness. His flexible personality made him as a mediator. Kyoumam s efforts could be as a stepping-stone for overcoming split crisis and maintaining life force of the Toigye school. These are what to focus on Kyoumam.
