Hunsu Jeong Man-Yang(塤叟 鄭萬陽)(1664~1730) and Jisu Jeong Ju-Yang(篪叟 鄭葵陽) (1667~1732) are scholars who greatly started cultural progress, acting in Youngcheon(永川) from late in the 17th century to former in the 18th century. They retired to hermitage in Hoenggye(橫溪) apart from fame and wealth, studied hard and trained juniors, having been accord with knowledge and behavior which practice filial duty toward one s parants and brotherliness. They lived an ideal and typical life as a scholar, living free from worldly cares with companions and desciples and enjoying poem and music. They discuss human nature and natural laws(性理學), a salutatory study(禮學), etc. with famous confucianists of the day through a visit or a correspondence, did learned activities by associating through poem as well. Besides, they dsciplined pupils who visited to train juniors and gave a lecture for some time, lodging together at nearby temple. They read and gave a lecture centering around the Confucian s sacred book(儒家經典), sometimes studied ancient writing(古文文章). Meanwhile, they were absorded in the compilation based on senior Confucianists writing, such as Jeong-Ju(程朱), Toe-Gye(退溪), by inheriting a Confucian s creative power. We have commenced research on Hun-Ji brothers now, therefore we should examine figures of their writing closely through a specpfic investigation from now on and make a study on establishment of historial phase continuously.
